Part.1 10 Best Bangla Films of 2020
1. Ahare Mon
"Ahare Mon" by Pratim D Gupta can fill your heart with warmth and bring a smile back to a tired soul. It is a true celebration of cinema and life. The film’s structure of four interwoven stories and the unexpected parallels between the protagonists immediately make us rejoice in the vibrancy of youth. The film does not demand intellectual puzzles or a glossy happy ending. It simply tells stories often hidden within social norms and secular life realities. Pratim D. Gupta shows a confident storytelling ability and a fondness for the vitality of his characters. The combination of these characters makes the film feel alive, emotional, kaleidoscopic, and leaves you smiling and satisfied. To download free Bangla movies, check the links below.
2. Ek Je Chilo Raja
Ek Je Chhilo Raja marks Srijit Mukherji’s return to the top of his game, ignoring the overblown criticism that has dogged some of his recent films. Srijit makes this film distinctive through a strong central theme, excellent pacing, and several standout performances. Special attention is due to the subject and its representation. The grandeur and colonial-era aura are beautifully built with deep production design and Indra Deep Dasgupta’s impressive score. There are a few unnecessary subplots that make you lose a little grip on the film’s construction. Still, it is a powerhouse, especially due to Jisshu Sengupta and Jia Aasan, who lead Ek Je Chilo Raja back into the limelight. For new Bangla film downloads 2020, check the links below.
3. Shonar Pahar
Shonar Pahar highlights the softened shadows of old age and how a strong bond can form between a child and an older woman. Directed by Parambrata Chatterjee, the film seeks to reinforce this connection. Children need more time with family in the race of modern life, and that’s the message here—especially for grandparents who can nurture and shape a child’s mind in the right way. The story follows an older woman driven into a strained relationship with her son who eventually finds peace in her friendship with a little child. Inspired by very realistic, mischievous child performances, Shonar Pahar is a gentle place to soothe your mind and delivers a deep, memorable emotional experience. Jisshu and Parambrata elevate the cinematic experience with their brilliance without disturbing the warm, soft theatrical tone centered on Upama and Bitlu. 4. Byomkesh Gowtro
When exposing the truth behind the deep lies of human sin, Byomkesh Gowtro strikes the right note. Whether it’s jealousy, greed, or desire, these forces easily drive every character and make the film compelling. This is also one of those rare cases where the antagonist manages to outsmart the seemingly perfect hero.
5. Haami
Focusing on topical issues troubling today’s youth, Haami examines the latest narratives around student-teacher relationships in modern urban schools. Directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherji, the film shows how small issues are often magnified by over-anxious parents and mistrustful school authorities. An innocent kiss between two cute children triggers a whirlpool of conflict that mirrors appalling real-life incidents.
6. Maati
Maati follows Pauli Dam, who returns to her grandparents’ home in Bangladesh several years after her grandmother’s mysterious death. Her grandmother, played by Aparajita Adhya, had decided not to leave Bangladesh after a separation, but was later killed by one of her loyal servants. Meghla discovers that the descendant of that murderer now lives in the same house.
7. Uronchondi
Directed by newcomer Abhishek Saha, "Uronchondi" delivers a respectable box-office performance. The film follows a first-time journey and tells the story of four different people traveling together. The plot centers on the young truck driver Chotku, who encounters three celebrities from three different generations—featuring Chitrasen, Sudipta Chakraborty, rookie Rajnandini Paul, and Amartya Roy.
8. Generation Ami
Mainak Bhaumik pays homage to Ray’s classic "Pather Panchali" in a unique style. For the sensibilities of teenage boys, this coming-of-age film is engaging and very appealing. He manages to find a way through Durga, the cousin. Generation Ami works largely due to these two protagonists, the subtle chemistry and the excellent performances by Ritabrato and Sauraseni, which feel real. However, if the director had controlled the drama more consistently and varied the tone instead of repeating the same motifs, the film’s experience would have been even better.
9. Pupa
As the unique title Pupa suggests, the plot diverges from the usual fare. This family drama is about the "gift of kindness." For those unfamiliar with "euthanasia," the act of ending a life to remove pain and suffering is presented here as a complex, morally fraught practice.
10. Abyakto
There’s a common saying: the best-told stories are told simply. Simplicity has no substitute; it brings a magic that can win hearts. If the story is solid, the best approach is to tell it in the simplest way. Debut director Arjun Dutta understands this. His first feature "Abyakto" is a short, powerful tale about the mother-child relationship, and it will surprise you with its emotional force.
